2010 World Cup: Bafana Bafana Travel To Brazil

The previous Bafana Bafana coach Clive Barker has reiterated his belief that Carlos Alberto Parreira’s trip to Brazil is a crucial step in getting the youngsters experience prior to the 2010 World Cup. Bafana Bafana

Of the trip Barker said “Taking the squad to Brazil was a good idea but we don’t have our players from overseas – I’m worried we won’t have time enough to blend them in with the current squad,” ‘The Dog’ said in his column on the AmaZulu website. It would be wrong to say Bafana Bafana have not done well on their trip in Brazil and their confidence must be growing even though they have been playing club sides.”

The daunting task of overseas player availability is Parreira’s major concern in the build up to the 2010 World Cup. With leagues around the globe needing their South African players in crucial end of season games, negotiating the release by the clubs of these players is a major step.

On the situation with overseas players Barker said “The combining of the overseas based players with the current squad will make it a very interesting wait for when Parreira announces the final squad. I believe it has been difficult to judge the team in a sense because you don’t get to see every game, but instead have to rely on hearsay. But at the end of the day we’re all hoping that the preparation paves the way for a good start in the first match of the World Cup.”

With the 2010 World Cup kick off fast approaching it will be an interesting wait prior to the final squads being announced.
